Rags-to-Riches: Wrongfull accusations

During 1991, My uncle was wrongfully convicted of a crime he didn't commit what made the matter worse was he was already being targeted by police for his past gang affiliations. My uncle's story is a different type of rags to riches because he went from being involved in gangs as a teenager then going to jail for a crime he did not commit to being released and now today he is basically doing way better than before. In 1990 my uncle was stopped and arrested for suspicion that he had something to do with a gas station robbery that happened when he was at work, while at the police station he was placed in a line up and the store manager chose him out of 6 others as the man who robbed him with a loaded firearm during the next few months he went to trial after trial with a very unexperienced attorney. The verdict should have been innocent especially with the very low amount of evidence that was found like no fingerprints, car matches, or of cameras showing he was at the gas station at the time the crime was committed. He was sentenced to 3 years in a Florida  jail, He continually  pleaded his innocence writing letters to everyone from President Bill Clinton to the NAACP. When his judge  received one of those letters, he appointed a new lawyer for him. My uncle was nearly done serving his prison sentence by the time the matter went back before Backman. The judge threw out the conviction. Even after he was let out of prison he had trouble getting back to his regular life he got divorced while he was in jail and the time he lost with his kids he couldn't get back after being locked up. Over the years he had different happening for him but when he won his most recent case that would allow him to be for his attorney bills and get money for the years he was in jail and being a innocent man. I've seen him improve and be a better person over the years and from making below minimum wage to owning his own company and having is own house with his soon to be wife.

Poverty in America

The definition of poverty is defined as the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. Poverty in the United States has been a real trending issue over the years it also has made a large increase, For example during the late 1950s, the poverty rate for every American was 22.4%. The numbers declined slowly throughout the 1960's, reaching a low of 11.1 percent in 1973. Over the next ten years, the poverty rate continually moved between 11.1 and 12.6%, it began to rise steadily again in 1980.In 1983, the number of individuals in poverty had risen 15.2 percent. For the next ten years, the poverty rate remained above 12.8 percent, growing larger to 15.1 percent, or 39.3 million individuals, by 1993. The rate declined for the remainder of the decade, to 11.3 percent by 2000. From 2000 to 2004 it rose each year to 12.7 in 2004. Since the late 1960s, the poverty rate for people over 65 has fallen dramatically. The poverty rate for children has historically been somewhat higher than the overall poverty rate. The poverty rate for people in households headed by single women is significantly higher than the overall poverty rate. From 2009 to 2010 the poverty rate increased to 15.1 percent in 2010, up from 14.3 percent in 2009 and the highest level since 1993, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's annual Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage report for 2010. An additional 2.6 million people landed in poverty in 2010, bringing the total to 46.2 million. The highest number since the government started tracking poverty in the 1950s. Poverty in America will continue to increase unless people try to help out the ones who are less fortunate in their community's.

Pressure for Adolescents

Stressing since an Adolescent, Is how most of teens live from going through pressures at school and when they are at home. Many of the surroundings that i have requires me to not give in to pressure about doing stupid things or being involved in activities that could possibly hinder me from succeeding in school like i would like to do , i recall once one of my classmates in 9th grade asked if i wanted to skip class and go to the movies with some girls he knew, i wanted to leave but that was the day of my class review of are upcoming math test and i decided to stay and so i could have a chance at passing the course. Later on that day i heard the person who asked me to leave with them was arrested along with a few others who had gone with him. I learned from that experience as long as many others in my life so far, I believe most teens should be able to get over these pressures if they just learn to ignore the ones or things that are trying to pressure them into being involved in different activities that don't necessarily convey the right message towards others in their society.

Blue Tape

Blue tape has an incredible effect on how us students learn. Studies show that when blue tape is applied to the school marker boards all teens immediately begin to comprehend the lesson plan of the day,one AP-calculus teacher explained that when she decided to use the new and Improved blue tape for the year her pupils in her classroom picked up on the very difficult math problems that were being presented. The blue tape in our school systems will extremely progress the way us students absorb information we have given to us each day. Blue tape is precisely what the government needed to help children improve at the studies they take so please put up blue because we just can't maneuver without it in our young lives.

Attitude On Drugs

The attitude on drugs in today's society is a little different I believe over the many years it has changed in different ways, For example in the mid 1960s during the hippie age a wide variety of drugs were used to explore the different states of consciousness, such drugs like cannabis,LSD, and magic mushrooms were abused the most during these times in America. During the 1980s crack began to really be popular among everyone because now they could afford it, usually it was drug for the rich movie stars but when it was simplified from cocaine and could be cooked with baking soda it became available for all ages, ethnicity groups, and social classes in the world. As the drug showed to be a bigger problem in the united states than thought the government decided to step in and try to stop the widespread issue, they might have gone about it the wrong way in L.A. When they attached battering rams to tanks and broke into suspected dope houses causing damage and anger around the city. Cannabis, weed, marijuana anything you call it the drug is still bad but more than half of America say it's harmless because it's a plant, they think it will have no affect on you because of that when really if you are able to get addicted to weed then if you try another drug you might be easily addicted to that one too that's why it's called a gateway drug. Overall todays attitude for drugs can differ a lot in situations and people you find.

Blog #1- Teen Pregnancy

I chose to write about teen pregnancy because its a been a problem in my community for a long time and i would like to share my opinion on it. Many people use to look down on this problem but now for some apparent they feel they should glamourize it by making television shows like MTV's "16 and Pregnant" . A study was in 2006 that ranked which states had the highest rates of teen pregnancy from ages 15-19, Nevada was at the top with 113% Florida was not far behind at number six witha percentage of 96. I believe if you are a teen parent you should be ready to deal with the harsh obstacles coming your way like not being able to finish school and live the teenage life you should have, most likely if its a single parent they are going to probaly end up on welfare because they cant live on their own with another life to care for, and last its a very high health risk increase when its a teenage parent giving birth especially for the child. In short, Teen pregnancy is not something to glamourize with television shows or things of that nature.
